What is an Osmo finish?

Is Osmo a good finish?

5.0 out of 5 stars This stuff is pretty amazing, I don’t think I will ever use cups wont leave rings. It is made for wood floors also so that should tell you something. I have used it on dark and light woods, I really like the satin finish it provides as well as durability.

Can you use Osmo oil on floors?

Is Osmo a polyurethane?

Osmo hardwax oil is a hard wearing, clear finish for timber and cork flooring. Osmo Polyx Oil is available in 4 sheen levels (Gloss, Satin, Semi-Matt and Matt), or in Polyx Raw – with white pigment, to keep the natural colour of the wood.

Do you sand between coats of Osmo oil?

Sanding is not necessary between coats. However, de-nibbing with a pad may help to reduce any imperfections from the surface between each coat.

How many coats of Osmo do I need?

For roller or brush applications; a maximum of two coats is recommended. Our finishes are designed to penetrate into the wood, application of a third coat is unlikely to absorb. For cloth applications; three or four coats is recommended.

Can you apply polyurethane over Osmo?

Ease of application: Again, really simple. Extra Thin Clear goes on just like a wipe-on polyurethane. Apply it, let it soak in for half an hour, and wipe off any excess. Let it cure overnight and apply a coat of regular Osmo over it.

Is Osmo scratch resistant?

Using the Osmo Liquid Wax Cleaner hides these scratches pretty well, but it really does appear to be a softer finish.

Will Osmo oil darken wood?

A clear oil such as Osmo Polyx Oil will maintain the natural appearance, but will darken the wood again, much like when you wipe water over bare wood, it will enhance and enrich the woods natural tones.

How long does Osmo take to dry?

How long does Osmo Polyx Hardwax-Oil take to dry? After applying the first coat of Osmo Polyx Oil with good ventilation it will take 8-10 hours to dry.

Can you mix Osmo oils?

Yes, the colour tones within the same product range can be mixed to any ratio. For example, Polyx®-Oil Tints 3072 Amber can be mixed with either 3075 Black to darken the shade, or alternatively with 3040 White to lighten the shade.

Can you apply Osmo oil with a cloth?

Cloth Application

Apply thinly with a clean lint-free cloth onto a clean, dry and smooth surface. Work it in slight circular motions along the grain. Once you’ve wiped on a thin layer, use a dry cloth and wipe off in the direction of the grain to avoid streaks.

Is one coat of Osmo Oil enough?

Osmo One Coat Only is a wood finishing oil with enough pigment so that a single coat is sufficient to color, nourish and protect wood. One Coat provides a protective, breathable satin finish to exterior wood that lets the natural wood grain remain visible.

How do you prepare wood for Osmo oil?

Wood Preparation

Clean or slightly sand old microporous finishes, remove old varnishes/lacquers by sanding. Small cracks, larger dents and small holes in the wood can be filled with Osmo Woodfiller. Sand carefully before application starting with a coarse paper – final sanding for flooring P100-150, furniture P180-240.

Is Osmo oil better than Danish oil?

My advise is Meths to remove as much as possible, sand to bare wood and 2 to 3 coats of Osmo worktop oil, far better than Danish oil and lasts years its very wipeable and much safer and cleaner around food.

How long before you can walk on Osmo floor?

As soon as the Polyx®-Oil has dried after application of two coats, the floor can be used immediately with light traffic. However, the finish takes approx. 10-14 days to complete the curing process.

Is Osmo a drying oil?

Osmo Polyx®-Oil 2K (6125) has a special curing time of 4 hours, which means the floor can be used as normal after this time. However, the other Polyx®-Oils have a drying time of 8-12 hours and a full curing time of approx.

How long does Osmo top oil last?

Recoat time is around 16-hours which is the same as most oil-based products. My preference is the satin over the matt as I think it gives you the most dramatic impact. The best thing about any Osmo oil is how rich it makes your timber look!!
