What is deck caulking?

While you might be tempted to fill in gaps in your decking with wood filler or caulk, the natural movement of the boards can eventually cause the materials to break loose and make the gaps even worse. However, you can use rope to easily fill the gaps.

Can you caulk a wood deck?

Once the wood is dry, fill any gouges, holes, and cracks deeper or wider than ¼ inch with a paintable acrylic caulk. Use a putty knife to scrape off the excess, then allow the caulk to set until it skins over, probably 30 minutes.

How long does it take for teak to turn gray?

Nearly all teak that is treated with normal teak-oil, turns gray in 4 to 8 weeks. After that, the teak needs to be cleaned and oil reapplied. Three or four treatments may be needed to maintain the teak for an entire season, which can be a lot of work.

For the typical production boat up to about 35′ the teak can be about 5/16″ thick, 3/8″ at the most. At this thickness the weight of the decking is about 112 lbs per square foot, not so much that it should seriously decrease stability.

How do you attach teak to fiberglass?

After cleaning the surface with acetone, alcohol or thinner wait for evoporaiton and apply a coat of epoxy and let it dry. You can later apply a second coat of epoxy and attach them to the fiberglass.

How do you keep teak from turning gray?

To restore weathered teak, first clean teak furniture with Teak Cleaner and then apply Golden Sealer to prevent re-graying. Teak sealer is water-based, eco-friendly and won’t harm plants, lawn or animals. After an initial two-coat application of Teak sealer, simply recoat annually to preserve golden teak appearance.

How do you protect teak?

A proper teak sealer will protect the wood from the sun’s UV rays, and inhibits the growth of mildew. If you choose to seal your furniture, be sure that you use a sealer that is environmentally friendly and designed specifically for teak. Before sealing, clean the surface with a teak cleaning agent.
